Next Generation Initiative

ICMA, in partnership with a number of affiliate organizations, has developed a series of activities and programs designed to help local governments educate, attract, develop, and retain individuals of all ages: from school-age children to mid-career assistants and department heads to professionals from other disciplines. The Next Generation Initiative focuses on attracting a wide and diverse group of people into the local government management profession and on developing and mentoring interns and early-to-mid-career professionals who are already in the field.

Credentialing

The ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program recognizes professional local government managers qualified by a combination of education and experience, adherence to high standards of integrity, and an assessed commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Managers are recognized by ICMA through a peer review credentialing process, and this self-directed program offers an opportunity for interested ICMA members to quantify the unique expertise they bring to their communities.

The program also assists ICMA members in focusing and reflecting upon their lifelong professional development experience. Members who participate in the program may earn the designation of ICMA Credentialed Manager granted by the ICMA Executive Board. ICMA Credentialed Managers are viewed with growing distinction by local governing bodies and progressive, civically engaged communities.

Purchasing

Nevada Public Purchasing

The Nevada Public Purchasing Study Commission (NRS 332.215) advises the state legislature on matters relating to public purchasing. The commission is composed of two smaller groups: Northern Nevada Consortium for Cooperative Purchasing and the Public Purchasing Professionals Association (Southern Nevada/Clark County). Both groups ensure cooperative purchasing among government entities and allow for cooperative bidding that retains better prices for all involved. Each governmental entity has the right to use another governmental entity’s contract. Contacts are provided below to become involved with either group.
